2013 Wishon Golf Catalog

It’s that time of year again. The first week of the new year and for the last three years that has meant I’ve finished work on the always fun and challenging 92 page Tom Wishon Golf Technology Catalog. As always, it makes design work much easier when you are really interested in the subject matter for which you’re designing. I really enjoy golf and so I look forward to this 6-7 month project every year now. It’s a nice change of pace to work in the TWGT office for parts of the project and sitting down and talking with Tom is fascinating and kind of like cracking opening an encyclopedia of clubmaking and golf manufacturing knowledge.

This year saw some not so subtle changes for the catalog. I changed from a dark layout to mostly white pages with black and white photographs for accent. I also changed the primary body font that the company has been using in their catalog since, well, they’ve been doing the catalog.

I did keep an important theme that I’ve initiated since being brought in to help with the 2011 Catalog. I continued to use colors to help quickly identify the different sections (ie. Red for Drivers/Blue for Irons/Bronze for Shafts/Ect.). These colors are visible on the edges of the pages to allow readers to quickly identify and navigate to the different sections.

This year I’ve pushed all of the information that is on every page (company phone number/TW icon/section color/page number/ect.) to the very edges/corners of the page to allow more content area and greater white space. I was also able to continue to be involved with the photography for this catalog. I shot two new products and was very happy with the results. I also had the opportunity to spend a beautiful Fall morning driving a golf cart around and photographing the incredible 27 holes of the Glacier Club which is located just North of Durango, Colorado.

As with any project of this scale, there are always challenges. This year, we didn’t even get two of the new products in to test and shoot for the catalog until a day before the final files were due to the printer. I’m very happy, however, with the end product and can’t wait to get my hands on a printed copy in a couple of weeks.
