Random Thoughts
by
Welcome to a beautiful Fall Friday, at least it is in my little corner of the country. It’s cool outside and nice and warm in the coffee shop I’m hanging out in. Perfect. Today I’m just going to go with some random thoughts. So here goes.
Fall Commuting:
It’s getting cold. The shorts I wore this morning on my 32 degree commute to the coffee shop could have been thought out a little better. It was one of those morning rides where about halfway through you realize you’re not dressed appropriate for the weather. I’ve been known to wear shorts with snow on the ground, but on a bike ride, maybe not the best idea. Your legs do get numb about halfway through, but it’s certainly not the best idea. Of course I also know this afternoon when the temp spikes at 70, I’m gonna love having these shorts on.
Only a Couple of More Weeks:
You’all know what I’m talking about (just got crazy Southern on you). Less than 3 weeks left until the general elections are over. Thank god! No more adds for a couple of more years. No more candidates’ faces jumping off a red, white and blue background. Don’t get me wrong, I recognize that this is an important part of being an American and voting is certainly a privilege, but I’m over it. Can’t wait to watch a football game without he said/she said ads every commercial break. I want the ridiculous Coors Light Ice Train ads back.
Intense Talkers:
You see these people quite a bit. Today it’s two, middle aged women sitting at the coffee bar. One of the women is INTENSE. One of those people that leans way in to her audience and doesn’t blink when she talks. The “I don’t have a bubble people”. Scary. Whenever I see these people talking to someone, I always feel bad for the other person. We’ve all been in that situation where you try not to give anything away but in your head you’re trying to decide how to move away just a bit, how not to look to scared/disgusted by the possibility of spray, uncomfortable that your space is being invaded and how not to just start laughing because of your lack of comfort and the fact that someone can take things that serious.
Fall in Durango:
I mentioned to it above, but it’s Fall here in Durango and it’s getting cold. I love this time of year. The daily commute is nice and cool. The colors are beautiful and the bright blue, Fall sky is an amazing backdrop to the red and gold leaves that are falling everywhere in town. The last couple of years this also means that I’m jumping into the Wishon Golf Catalog. I am still really excited about the new design and enjoying spending 3 mornings a week in their office feeling really productive and focused on one project for those couple of hours.
The Heist:
If you haven’t checked out Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, check out the new album The Heist. It’s Hip Hop, and certainly not for everyone, but if you like that genre of music then it’s worth a listen. Independent artists from Seattle, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ music is a great mix of fun tunes, serious tunes and some thought provoking lyrics. The album features a group of really talented and eclectic guest artists as well and the videos on YouTube are very well done. Have fun!
Work Appreciation:
Every time I shoot a wedding for a friend, I am inevitably pleased, honored and humbled upon delivering the pictures to the bride and groom. While the entire process is a ton of work, it’s worth it after hearing the bride and groom and their friends and family layer on the accolades, appreciation and thanks. I’ve said it before, but it’s very satisfying to know that you’ve given your friends an amazing visual archive of one of the most memorable moments of their life.
The Ducks Look GOOOOOOOD:
If you didn’t know, I’m a proud University of Oregon graduate. I feel like I received a great and diverse education in Multimedia Design. I really enjoyed my time on campus and living in Eugene. I think Oregon is one of the prettiest states I’ve ever lived in and one of the places I would actually leave Durango to move back to if the right situation came to being. I’m also a huge sports fan and my wife will tell you I have killed her interest in football because she feels like (in her words) “She loses her husband in the Fall.” The last couple of years it has been fun to be an Oregon Ducks fan. Basically owning the pac-12. Playing for a National Championship. Losses are a genuine surprise. The Ducks’ domination of a supposedly pretty good ASU team has been the norm this season. Up so big by the end of the first half, Oregon pulled most of their offensive starters and cruised to a 43-21 win in the dessert. Keep it up guys! Would be great to watch you in the big game again.
That’s it. Hope you have a great weekend. Thanks for stopping by!
